Allowing your female dog to have puppies can be a great experience, but you need to understand the responsibility requirements. Overpopulation is a major problem. There many of both purebred and mixed dogs in shelters and pounds all over the world that must be euthanized every year. Unless your sure you can find every puppy a loving owner, you should have your dog spayed before she reaches sexual maturity.

Breeding dogs can be very expensive. Before you can breed your stud or bitch, they should be checked (x-rayed) for hip dysplasia problems, checked for vision problems, examined for thyroid problems and checked for several other congenital conditions that could be pass on to the puppies. If you have a bitch, the stud fee can be hundreds of dollars. Even if elect to give pick of the litter in lieu of a stud fee, that means you will lose the best puppy and any money you could of received for the sale.

Breeding dogs can have emotional costs as well. Can you handle the pain when your ***** has to go through a C-section or even dies while giving birth? How about when all the puppies are still born? Death is a large part of breeding your dogs and it’s rare when every puppy in a litter survives. If something happens to the mother, you may have to hand raise a whole litter yourself and this is not an easy task.

If you do decide on breeding your dog, then they should have all of the necessary certifications. It’s best to wait until the dog is at least 2 years old before breeding. For males this is not a real problem. However, for females it is. Since a ***** can come into heat starting as early as 6 months, you’ll have to keep a constant eye on her all the time. Frequency of breeding is not really a problem with most dogs, but a male dog can be less effective if used a stud constantly. All purebred dogs need the very best food and care regardless of how often you plan on breeding your dog.

A typical ***** will come into season every six months. It is highly recommended that you not her during the first cycle. many times the dog has not completely matured and dog breeding too soon can cause physical development problems. Her growth will stop and needed calcium may be transferred to pups instead.

If you do have a ***** that you want to breed, you must watch her like a hawk when she’s in heat. That’s because a single female can be impregnated by as many as a dozen different males during the same cycle resulting in puppies who all have a different father other than the intended stud. She shouldn’t be allowed out of site when outdoors, even in a fenced in yard. The urge to mate is strong and there many be dozens of male dogs in the neighborhood who would balk at digging under or climbing over a fence to take care of business.

The last thing you should do before you make a decision to breed your dog is visit the local dog pound in a large city nearest you. Question them on how many “purebred” dogs they kill every week. I think the information you discover there might be surprising.

Dog Breeds

Felix asked:

There are over 800 dog breeds known until today, every breed with special abilities and look. It’s very important that the future owner of the dog or puppy should know all the details about grooming, overview information’s ,character , coat, ownership and activity information’s.

There are some dog breeds that need a lot of time from the owner to be cared of. Some dog breeds are less shedding and some are highly shedding. Before buying or getting a dog from rescue centers, be sure that you know everything about that dog breed, and you will be fully prepared to raise the dog without any issue.

Some of the dog breeds can handle ok in apartment, but some need a yard, where they can run and exercise. Most of the time, large dog breeds can’t handle so good in a small house, or an apartment. All the dogs need hours of exercise every day. If you have children it’s important to know if the dog will be ok with that. Some dog breeds love to play with children, but some are very mean and can hurt your baby. Anyway, most of the dogs will get along well with children, if raised with them.

Some dogs are less or more time consuming , most of the time it depends on the time required for grooming.

Pets with short coats will require almost no grooming , just a quick brush and wipe down every so often, while pets with long coats will require regularly grooming and care, that will take some time. For persons that don’t have a lot of time to spend with the dog it’s recommended to get a short coated breed.

Dog tips!

are beloved by many. They are loyal and intelligent and especially good at learning tricks. They are known for being very loving and loyal with their owners.

Toy dogs are great choices for people with allergies or limited space, as they are generally docile and have less fur to irritate sensitive people. They do have a small disadvantage in that they often bark more than larger dogs for attention, but due to the small size of their vocal chords, they do so with less volume! The best of these dogs, and there are many, are true companion animals. Their only task in life is to please people and keep them company.

Toy dogs are exceptional choices for the elderly as they love to be loved, are lightweight (weighing on average 5 pounds, bitches weighing even less) and are fiercely protective.

Toy dogs as the name suggests, are very small, and most of time not very good with small children. With the exception of the Pug, who has been characterized as one of the sturdiest and most stable of the toys.

Despite their small size toy dogs are probably the gutsiest pups in the canine family with their big yet little voices barking at the mere site of other dogs and passers-by. Sometimes this can be a problem for them however, when they don’t back down against a larger animal they are sure to come-off worst in the battle.

Toy dogs are not only meant to entertain your pets. Toy dogs provide you with a reason to move more, which we all need to do to avoid overweight problems. Keep fit by exercising your toy dog. Toy dogs are generally an easy-care pet.

Toy dogs are not limited in their gene pool by their small size, and are descendants of a wide variety of dog breeds. Their predominant characteristic is that most were initially bred and developed their characteristic natures when kept as a loyal companion, and are often referred to as lap dogs. No points awarded to you for guessing why that is!

One thing though which they do suffer from. Toy dogs are notorious for having bad teeth and the small mouths and small jaws make it almost impossible to clean them adequately at home. So, many have a need for regular visits to a vet to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

Toy dog breeders are no different from any others and we find their trait of talking about their disappointing pups as “only pet quality” unhelpful. In other words breeders who see pets as a by-product of the breeder’s search for the perfect dog, are not primarily looking after you the pet owners interest. We say beware of buying from such a breeder. Breeders like this do not give the health of their puppies the highest priority, instead their motivation is to show the best looking dog that they can breed.

Breeding for appearance was only introduced in the 19th Century, and is in danger of degrading the stock of healthy genes in our dog population. Before this time dogs and puppies were bred to increase useful abilities and traits helpful for the duties they were intended for. Breeds in the some breed groups nowadays suffer from far more genetic problems than they have in the past. Some breeds that have become more and more popular as time goes on have suffered for being bred for quantity to fed the market, again to the detriment of the health of the pups available for sale. Just be aware of this when you choose a breeder.

toy dogs that tend to get along well with older children that are less likely to make loud noises, suddenly run or jump around or do something completely unexpected are more numerous. These dogs typically respond well to children, especially if they have been raised in a household with calm, respectful and responsible kids.

Each of the types of toy dog breeds require different types and amounts of care, training, food, and exercise. They have different “personalities” and drive, so if you want to own one, do take care to research their good points and the less liked points of behavior and health which apply to each toy dog breed.

Take care to gain your information from kennel club web sites, because depending on reading only the descriptions on the breeders sites may not alert you to some of the aspects the toy dog breeder may shall we say fail to see due to their familiarity and tendency to wear what we might call “rose tinted glasses” when thinking of their own sweet toy dogs dogs.

Nursing homes and adult care facilities have found toy dog breeds to be soothing for their patients. Contrary to common perception, there is no law preventing animals from living in nursing homes. Very many of these facilities have found the toy dog breeds to be very soothing for their patients, and with careful breed selection to match the care home residents physical exercise capabilities are not demanding on their ability or staff time to exercise them.

We are great fans of the toy Papillons, which unlike many other toy dogs, are not just a lap dog. Owners claim that this toy dog breed is truly well rounded in its personality and is a big dog in a small package.

Papillons, although dainty and small they are quite capable of taking long walks with their humans and often excel at the energetic sport of dog agility. The Maltese are another example of very robust daintiness, and would also feature in my list of toy dogs to consider.

We think that Papillons are wonderful spirited toy dogs, and find that their devotion as a companion are second to none. Papillons from the best toy dog breeders have been carefully selected for their own special traits, personalities and conformation.

Just like any dog, early socialization and training of the puppy to curb excessive barking and leg lifting is required. We would like to stress that even though these dogs are very small, they still enjoy lots of playtime and long walks. We also recommend consistent obedience training for these dogs just like dogs of any size the owner should be able to control them when in any public location.

Finally, if you are considering a toy dog breed have you thought of buying an adult dog? Adopting a homeless dog is not just the epitome of kindness. In fact the investment is one in loyalty, devotion and companionship for a lifetime. Adopting a really sweet toy dog is like giving a lease on life on the animal and having lost one owner they seem to heap even more devotion on a second owner.

When you are planning to get a dog for your family, nothing beats having everyone pitch in when choosing which particular breed to get. For sure, your children and even your spouse would have a lot of suggestions, and these might be in terms of size and temperament. Choosing one particular dog breed just might become daunting on your part. Thus, it would be better to do some research on the popular family dog breeds that you just might want to get. Here are some of the popular breeds.

The Golden Retriever

This breed makes an excellent choice because this dog is very sociable and enjoys outdoor activities. If you are considering getting a Golden Retriever, then you should know this interesting fact about the breed. Back in the day, the Golden Retriever was actually trained to retrieve birds whenever hunters would go on expeditions. However, it did not take too long for the hunters to observe that the breed was more of a family companion rather than a hunting companion. Thus, it soon became one of the popular family dog breeds. One major downside of the Golden Retriever, however, is its fur. Its fur has to have serious maintenance to keep it healthy so this would require brushing daily. Much fur would also be shed, which is not too good for families who have asthmatic members.

The West Highland Terrier

More popularly known as the Westie, this small terrier is very playful. Because of its playful nature, dog owners would have to be ready to do some exercises with the dog, just to keep it active and happy. Westies are very loyal to their owners and they also make great watchdogs. However, because of its small size, younger children could somehow mistreat it quite a bit. Thus, it would be better to get this small dog if the children in the house are a bit older already. Much like the Golden Retriever, the Westie also needs to be groomed so that his coat is maintained free from tangles.

The Cairn Terrier

This is still a little dog, much like its cousin, the Westie. The Cairn Terrier likes to be with a lot of people and needs a lot of exercise to stay happy as well. You have a lot of choices when it comes to color with the Cairn Terrier because this breed comes in the following colors: cream, red, grey, sandy, wheaten, and even in combinations of these colors.

These are just some of the popular dog breeds you should consider. For more information on the other breeds, do not hesitate to contact your local vet. Vets are the most qualified people who can share valuable information about all dog breeds in the market.

Dog tips!

John Williams asked:

There are many different breeds of dog and choosing the right one for you or your family can be a difficult choice as there is several different aspects to consider and a lot of verity before you make your selection. This article may help you decide on the one you want by naming the dogs with the best training abilities.

There are no guarantees with which dog breeds will behave in certain ways and there will always be exceptions in every breed of dog but there are many characteristics that you can look out for when finding the correct breed for you, here are some of the top dogs in order of ease to train and how quickly they pick up the different tasks and activities.

Labrador Retriever

The Labrador retriever is a very affectionate dog that takes well to unknown strangers, very friendly and the best of our choice of dogs that are easy to train.

Australian Cattle Dog

The Australian cattle dog is yet another easy breed to train and teach new tricks to due to their passion for learning, not so good with other pets and may be a bad choice if other pets are around at your home.

Sheepdog

Sheepdogs are renowned for being a good well behaved training dog on places such as farms and holdings. Although good and faithful to owners, these dogs don’t take so well to other people who are not familiar, if you have many visitors to your home it may be a choice of breed.

Australian Shepherd

This is again a dog with very high drive to learn new things and explore things further but is not as friendly as the Labrador retriever at the top of the list and is not as energetic either, but is a good protector of the home.

Border Collie

The border collie is not as trainer friendly as some of the breeds above but is a very hard working dog with lots of affection and energy. The border collie enjoys challenges and challenging training schedules. If you cannot spare at least an hour of intense exercise this might not be the correct dog breed choice for you.

There are many other dog breeds around, and you may prefer other training breeds so before getting a dog be sure to explore all aspects to make sure the chosen dog is correct for you and speaking to other family and friends may be a good idea to get extra feedback on the best breed for you and your home.
